Ben Schmidt

Group Vice President and General Manager, Americas

Mr. Schmidt is group vice president and general manager of Metaldyne Americas, which includes Metaldyne’s Sintered, Driveline and Balance Shaft Module product groups, which are headquartered in the United States and include 12 global operations and three technical centers in seven countries across the Americas, Asia and Europe. As group vice president and general manager, he oversees sales, engineering and product development, manufacturing operations, investments, finance and human resources. He also plays an integral role as a member of the executive team for Metaldyne and serves on the boards of many of the related companies.

Mr. Schmidt has worked at Metaldyne for over 17 years in a variety of leadership positions. Prior to his current position, Mr. Schmidt has led various Product Groups including the Metaldyne Sintered Group, the Metaldyne Hydraulic Controls Group and the previous Metaldyne Shaft Operations. He has also served as vice president, Strategic Initiatives, and as a member of the executive committee, leading companywide key strategies, and as CFO of the forging group. He joined Metaldyne in 1993 as group controller of Metaldyne Sintered Components.

Before coming to Metaldyne, Mr. Schmidt worked as vice president and CFO of Trim Trends Inc. and spent six years at Borg-Warner Automotive in leadership roles.

In 1997, Crain's Detroit Business named Mr. Schmidt as one of the "40 under 40." That same year, he was awarded Alumni of the Year by the University of Michigan.

Mr. Schmidt currently sits on the Dean's Advisory Board for the University of Michigan. He is also a certified green belt in Six Sigma and a licensed private pilot.

Mr. Schmidt holds an MBA from the University of Detroit with a concentration in International Business & Finance, as well as a BSA in Managerial Finance & Economics from the University of Michigan Dearborn.
