Metaldyne's award-winning fracture-split camshaft caps have been selected for use in a number of diesel truck engines - including 2.8L, 3.0L, and 4.2L designs. The 3.0L application, specifically, contains five caps, adding 1.75 kg (3.85 lbs.) of powder metal per engine.

Benefits of the fracture-splitting technology include:
  • Reduction of nearly 60% in machining time and cost
  • Lower expenses resulting from the elimination of locator bushings

Caps specifications are:
  • Density of 6.8 g/cm3
  • Yield strength, 433 MPa (62,785 psi)
  • Tensile strength, 560 MPa (81,200 psi)
  • Fatigue strength, 175 MPa (25,375 psi)
  • Minimum hardness, 80 HRB
